Ryanair are currently recruiting for a Legal Associate to join the Customer Service Team of Europe’s Largest Airline Group.

The purpose of this position is to support Ryanair’s Customer Service Legal team and the broader company in protecting Ryanair’s interests whilst complying with our obligations under EU Regulation 261/2004. The successful candidate will be hard-working, energetic, self-motivated with a natural ability for problem solving.

The Role

Ryanair’s significant growth and the increase of EU261 awareness has led to higher case volume and more support and advice being sought from our Customer Service Legal team.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial litigation, passenger rights, legal evidence and aviation operations to support the effective management, coordination and processing of legal claims as a result of disruption in all jurisdictions where Ryanair operates. They will work closely with the CS Lawyers, Legal Associate Managers, and CS Legal Supervisors in the development of strategies designed to improve success rates of our in-house CS Legal team. They will be involved in developing and implementing a quality program to ensure high-quality submissions that are aligned with company policies are being generated by our in-house CS Legal team. The Senior CS Legal Associate will ensure open channels of communication are maintained with the Legal Associates to guarantee quality and productivity, identifying and addressing barriers to success. They will take the lead on special projects to push forward Ryanair’s agenda in its key jurisdictions, including anti-CMC and Serial Lawyer strategy.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will maintain up-to-date knowledge of passenger rights and relevant EU/national legislation and share that information. They will be an experienced and approachable member of the Legal Associate team, and a first point of contact for their colleagues in dealing with technical matters and legal escalations. They will work extremely closely with the CS Legal Supervisors and CS Legal Associate Managers on a day-to-day basis with a particular focus on EU261 legal case-handling and strategy. They will be responsible for the quality of their team’s output, and work one-to-one with the Legal Associates to address quality issues that are identified. They will have a demonstrated history of positive leadership and influence as a Legal Associate, outstanding stakeholder management skills, and a record of having gone above and beyond.
  • Ad hoc duties will be required to support the team, in an incredibly fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer
  • Significant experience handling EU261-related matters, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Ryanair associated with this piece of legislation
  • A pro-active, can-do attitude and ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Litigation experience
  • Understanding of consumer protection legislation, particularly at European level
  • Ability to learn quickly, show initiative and cope with a large and varied caseload, whilst complying with tight legal deadlines
  • Demonstrated history of positive leadership and a professional approach to problem-solving
  • Proven ability to foster constructive and collaborative relationships with colleagues and internal/external stakeholders
  • Exceptional organisation, planning, record-keeping and communication skills
  • Outstanding drafting and legal writing skills, attention to detail
  • Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). Additional European languages would be highly regarded
  • Experience in performance management, quality or compliance would be an advantage
  • Willingness to travel
