Description

Ryanair are currently recruiting for an Expert Legal Witness to join the Customer Service Team of Europe’s Largest Airline Group.
This is an excellent time to join Ryanair as we look to grow to over 800 aircraft and 300m guests within the next 10 years. 

The purpose of this position is to support Ryanair’s Customer Service Legal Team and the broader company in protecting Ryanair’s interests whilst complying with our obligations under EU Regulation 261/2004. Ryanair operates over 3,600 daily flights increasing to 4,500 and it is the responsibility of the CS Legal team to ensure that we defend and settle any cases relating to the small portion of flights that fail to arrive on time, in accordance with the regulation. The successful candidate should be passionate about aviation and flight operations, they will be hard-working, energetic, and highly self-motivated. They will have significant flight/airport/operations experience and a willingness to travel. 

The Expert Legal Witness should either have a keen interest in litigation, legal evidence and flight/airport/operations or previous experience with this in order to support in the effective management, coordination and processing of legal claims as a result of flight disruptions across the Ryanair network, but with a particular focus on Germany.

 

Duties include but not limited to;

  • Represent Ryanair Group in court proceedings and provide expert legal and technical evidence in relation to operations, piloting etc and in a simple understandable manner.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the courts and it’s officers.
  • Assist the wider CS Legal Team and external lawyers in dispute resolution and litigation strategy, with a particular focus on the German market.
  • Participate in discussions with National Enforcement Bodies and other legal bodies. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of passenger rights and relevant EU/national legislation, and share relevant information with their CS Legal colleagues. 
  • Resolve queries from internal and external stakeholders and respond to requests from in-house and external legal teams 
  • Support stakeholders with the interpretation of technical evidence, with a view to improving success rates both in court, and in defences on the papers. 
  • Assist in the preparation of evidence related to flight disruptions, in collaboration with our CS Legal and Operations departments, including establishing and maintaining constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and responding to a high volume of requests for instructions, information and/or evidence.
  • Occasional ad hoc duties will be required to support the team.

Requirements

  • Significant flight/airport/operations experience, e.g. pilot, operations controller
  • Understanding of Regulation EU261
  • Some litigation experience would be an advantage
  • Willingness to travel
  • Excellent drafting skills, and the ability to explain complex evidence materials in a simple way
  • Ability to learn quickly, show initiative and cope with a large and varied caseload, whilst complying with tight legal deadlines
  • Exceptional organisation, planning, record-keeping and communication skills
  • Full professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken). Additional European languages would be highly regarded.
